In a
previous exhibition, I drew on the life and work of William Henry Fox Talbot to create a mix of conceptual drawing, experimental photography, and historical homage. I made large drawings based on the introduction to "The Pencil of Nature," as well as smaller drawings from photocopies of secondary sources discussing Talbots photographic discoveries. I also presented the results of my own experiments with
calotypes and created a pair of
letterpress bookmarks that viewers were invited to take home.
I intend to expand on this previous body of work in a new project. This time around, along with a large-scale drawing based on twenty photocopies of the text of "The Pencil of Nature," I am creating a sculptural installation that references the forms of nineteenth-century drawing machines or cameras obscura. My drawing machines will house modern-day opaque projectors that will project drawings of my research (including an image of Talbots 1833 melancholy drawing) on to the wall.
